Posted By Robert S Woods Does anyone have any (or knows where I can obtain) statistics on levels of health and safety competence of Managers of SMEs? I am particularly interested in how many of them know their responsibilities regarding controlling contractors. I have a client who thinks he has no need to bother.

In response to your issue regarding controlling contractors there are different requirements required depending on the work they are hired to do, so please try and define which aspects of control are required.
Although one possibility of highlighting the requirements for organisations in controlling their contractors may be to use recent publications in the SHP of 'court round'as a shock tactict, there are usually numerouse organisations which have been prosecuted under HSWA 74 and the supporting Regulations because of failling to control contractors.
