Hi all

I'm currently looking at Software modification procedures on our COMAH chemical plant.

Could anyone help out by providing direction to best practice and or any procedures they may be willing to share

This is primarily for a Distributed Control System

Any other guidance will be appreciated too

Thanks

Adam

Assuming this is a higher tier COMAH plant, surely you have in place a "Management of Change" procedure? This should cover the broad aspects of this sort of change.

(The sort of procedure I am thinking of has a form associated with it; all aspects of the change are brainstormed and signed off by different group eg Engineering, Production, Admin, Safety etc).

For a change to a DCS system, then I would challenge the vendor, who must have come across this situation?

If none of this applies, I would do a "Hazop" style approach using a team and asking "what if". You could start by listing all the changes that will occur and use these as a checklist.

Thanks Gary

We were looking for a specific proc for Software mods including temporary mods. - An expansion of what is contained in the HSE technical measures document.

We want to avoid HAZOP and CHAZOP as these are too lengthy.

I was just hoping someone may have an outline of a procedure or could point me in the right direction.
