This was taken from a BBC Website.

Noise levels experienced by players at Fratton Park, Old Trafford and Anfield are often in excess of 90 decibels - meaning that players may be given earmuffs to protect their hearing under health and safety legislation. (The Sun)

Although quoted from 'The Sun' it shows just what we are up against! More fuel for the sceptics!!

But surely Regulation 4 (weekly exposures) would apply?

Which sleazy, maliscious, ignorant and uninformed numpty wrote the article?

One to ignore really, but also one to be aware of so that when you are chatting in the Snug and a gullible bampot quotes this as evidence of "it's 'elf & safety gorn maaad innit" you can refute it.

Make a bet with them - "I guarantee you £100 that in 12 months time, you will not see the starting eleven of any team in Europe trotting out with hearing defenders on."

"Plus interest, at 7.68% compound."

See if they are willing to put their money where their mouth is - perhaps at the point the brain would actually kick in (then again, maybe not - easy £100 quid [plus interest])

Actually, can you give the website link for further reference? Cannot find it on BBC.

I would disagree. As a long term Leeds United fan, I feel sure hearing protection, although discrete, was worn by the team (team used loosely) during Saturdays game at the Hawthorns. They obviously were not hearing the encouragement from the Leeds faithful or they would have lifted their game.

My son is a season ticket holder at Elland Road - yes, he's out of the will ! - his opinion was that the team were unable to translate Anglo Saxon into fruitful team moves !!

I don't know the context in which it was mentioned in the Sun, but the reference on the BBC website is in the 'and finally' section of the football gossip, which those who regularly view it will know it is generally a tongue in cheek selection of stuff in the papers

It's the ones amongst you taking this seriously that I have most concern about.

You need to raise your game guys.

I'd already read the link posted when I was trying to find it - doesn't mention hearing protection though!

I am enjoying some of the comments as well!

It sounds like the comment was, in context, tongue in cheek so it is a case of "if you can't laugh at yourselves . . ." and not a "oh here we go again, maligning our honest profession . . ." kind of article.

Let's take it in the spirit intended - laugh at the obvious absurdity, and shrug it off.

"laugh at the obvious absurdity, and shrug it off"!

You are obviously not aware of the plight of the Leeds faithful! I for 1 shall be wearing hearing protection tomorrow to minimise the potential damage to my hearing from listening to match commentary of the Leeds trip to the Blues (work means I cant attend in person - never though I would say "thank God for work").

I think my under 14's team wear hearing protection. They never listen to my instructions from the side line.

As an Elland Road regular myself, I can guarantee that no noise regs will be breached by the actions of the crowd. As for the team, they didn't hear anything at West Brom because of occupational induced hearing loss, it is purely down to presbycusis.
