Palletising of white goods - manual handling
Rank: Guest
|
Posted By Martin Taylor We have a number of warehouse operators required to palletise white goods - washers, tumble dryers etc - for transfer by forklift truck to despatch vehicles.
At present we use 2 methods - basic 'walking' of the item onto the pallet or using a basic sack barrow.
Both methods have manual handling risks and I would be interested in hearing from any members with a similar work activity to understand alternative methods
many thanks for all thoughts and commments
Martin

Posted By lewes Could you not use some sort of Vacuum Lift to help with the lifting and positioning of the units ??

If the operation is a continuous/regular one in an area well used for the operation you would be hard put to put up a defence should you need to if you have not installed some sort of mechanical handling device
We install handling devices on construction suites that are here today and gone tomorrow [almost] so a permanent site should have no probs

Posted By Lloyd Briscoe Have you considered replacing the forks on the fork lift truck, for an hydraulic clamping mechanism?
These are industry standard at the big retailers (such as DSG).
The final leg into the back of a vehicle can then be done manually, using a sack-barrow.

Posted By Graham I have white goods within my operation and we have constructed a landing stage. That the clamp trucks deposit the product on at one side then the pickers comes along at the other side, (the landing stage is the same height as the height of a pallet) therefore the pickers have to walk the product onto the picking pallet this aids in the separation of employees and MHE and helps reduce the effects of manual handling. My problem is how much does the walking of white goods reduce the manual handling effect? can't use a newton meter because the product has no wheels.and the mac tool does not allow for pushing and pulling.
