Could someone tell me how long we need to keep records of inspection after a contract is completed. Our filing cabinet is full of them!
Regards,
Mart

Mart,
There is no specified period of time - the inspection record is to demonstrate that you have inspected an existing scaffold adequately. Once a scaffold no longer exists (certainly after the project is complete) there is no statutory need to hold on to the records.
However the records may be useful for other reasons, such as to demonstrate that scaffold was properly inspected following an injury claim etc.

Mark,
We keep ours for three years minimum from completion of the project.
As previously mentioned they can be used to show inspections were carried out in the event someone should decide to make a claim.
After the three years and with no claims pending we destroy all such records.
Hope this helps
Regards
Clive

Assuming you are dealing with construction work. Records of inspection have to be kept available for HSE perusal for three months after the end of the project.
Remember though if an incident has occurred and there may be a potential civil claim the injured party has 3 years to make their claim.
Most companies I have worked for kept them for a minimum of 5 years

Martyn is absolutely correct with 3 months from the end of the project.
I stand corrected

Dear Mart,
I agree with Clive Lowery that scaffold inspection records should be kept for a minimum of 3 years from the completion date of project. Based on my experience as an expert witness, the absence of scaffold inspection records would possibly put the plaintiff in a better position to argue his case against the defendant should there be a civil suit.
