I have been asked to compile a permit to work procedure on behalf of a shopping centre. Telecommunications companies employ contractors on the top roof of the shopping centre. This is done mostly at night (due to less signals etc). There is no light available on the roof, numerous trip hazards and edge protection is an issue. Safety in the design of the building was not taken into account (built in 1970s). The building is going to be knocked in the next few years so the amount of resources used will have to be considered. Could anyone provide me with some guidance or reference documents on any of the above issues?

Kitty what is your position in this,if you do not know what to do you are deemed not to be competent so if something happens someone somewhere will want to look at your assessment of the work.

Be very careful before undertaking this task.

I would have thought the company carrying out the work would have supplied the client or their competent representative with all the necessary documentation before this work goes ahead

All the client would do is say that's OK I have looked at your procedures, they have covered the risks and reduced them SFAIRP
