Colleagues,

Could anyone point me in the right direction in order to acquire a battery powered vehicle or device to help move mobile steel racking units (3 metres x 1.5 metres x 2 metres high) around the shopfloor.

At the moment, two operatives move these rackings back and forth between several different processes. The load can weigh around 1 tonne and a small powered vehicle would resolve some of our manual handling issues. The work area and the processes involved will not allow for automation.

I have been told about a device that could manoeuvre similar size loads of up to 2 tonnes.

Can you help, please.

Regards

Mark

Have you tried looking at the HSE free leaflets on the HSE website, I know they publish one on choosing lifting aids which shows different types that are available. If you get on well with your HSE inspector, contact them and ask their advice, I know my local inspector is always more than happy to provide information etc that's what they are there for (his words.

Alternatively, perhaps you could contact some of your local fork truck/mechanical handling suppliers, in my experience it is easier to explain to them what you need to do and generally they come up with a few trucks they provide that should help you solve your dilemma.

If you choose the latter option make sure you try a few different companies before make your choice.

Hope this helps and good luck.

i'd speak to GAP or A plant or your local plant hire company, they would assess your needs if required and provide the right kit for the job - better than getting it wrong it is their field after all

hope this helps
