Posted By Pam Williamson Hello all, I have been asked to deliver safety sessions for adults with special needs (vary in age from 18 to 53). The difficulties they have vary from very low reading ability, mobility / sight impaired, downs syndrome plus others.
This is to make them aware of hazards / haz spotting / manual handling as they are to be given placements to gain work experience in areas within a college.
They are very good at retaining H&S info. once instructed as I have done an induction session with them when they began in college (Covered reg's relating to them - did pop quiz, made umberella mobile).
Question is: does any one have any ideas / teaching resoures / links they are willing to share with me. Thanks in anticipation, Pam

Posted By Kieran J Duignan Apart from high hazards, for people with special needs, using behavioural analysis can be very effective for this group.
It has the advantages of reducing the load on memory in favour of applying a subtle (and apparently simple) model summed up as 'ABC'.
A stands for Antecedents, B for Behaviour and C for Consequences. So the central thrust is to educate people to think in terms of safe and useful consequences through the behaviour they choose (and reinforce in others).
Let me know if you need help to apply the ABC.
