The MHSW 99 tells us that we must risk asses young persons and of course pregnant and expecting mothers etc. But what about old persons Risk assesments? Is this ageist? We have a guy who is 73. He's relatively fit etc. But is this ageist?
Just a thought for a Friday

It is not more ageist than assessing a young person. Age discrimination applies at both ends of the age scale.

The only reason you would need an 'old persons' risk assessment would be if you deemed that an activity was likely to have increased risk to old persons in general, otherwise you should be covered by your normal risk assessment process or an individual assessment for someone with known issues.

The point about young person risk assessments is that it will always be fair to say that thye have none or limited experience and therefore may need additional controls to be in place.

I agree with the previous thread. YP RA is specifically required by the management regs. one for the slightly older worker is not. However it would come under general risk assessments - is their age and associated health issues likely to become a risk factor - operating dangerous machinery/lifting/physical exertion....

You've said yourself he's relatively fit ... so what's the problem?
