Posted By shaun mckeever I have responded to a few enquiries on this forum and am a little dismayed that there is no acknowledgement from the poster. I don't know if the poster read the replies, if the replies were useful or even if the poster solved the problem without the help of the responses. I just wonder if the AUG's should require that when someone posts an enquiry that they should at least revisit and acknowledge at some point. Not to acknowledge every point but at least let us know that they have read the responses.

Posted By Merv Newman Shaun, this is not a matter for the AUG but simply of courtesy between colleagues. Many people do offer their thanks for replies to their queries, some others go off-site and exchange e-mails so we do not see the end of the conversation. We often see, after a request for documentation for example, the posting "I've e-mailed direct". Other questions develop into quite long threads, sometimes off-topic and the original query may never be fully addressed. So no "thanks" may ever be due. Let's not make politesse an official requirement. Merv

Posted By shaun mckeever Of course you are right Merv but it would be nice if some were a little more polite. Thanks Shaun

Posted By Tabs So add a line "I would be grateful if you could reply if you found my post useful" ... most posts go on and on, and the originator may find themselves saying thank you repeatedly over several days - potentially doubling the length of the post (or worse with the responding "You're welcome" that etiquette suggests would follow). I for one would rather it is taken for granted that I appreciate the help - and that I *might* mention by exception the unhelpful posts.

Posted By Brett Day A method I employ, when I am asked for help, bits and bobs etc wether posted or e-mailed is to look at those who acknowledge help and in future I actively respond to those (if I can) those who are rude, don't acknowledge I make a point of not bothering with. It is sad that there are some 'professionals' who don't say 'Thank You', however it shouldn't be part of the AUG's IMO as how is this enforced if someone says thanks via an e-mail or call???
