Hi Guys,
Can you help me please. We have a paint spraying operation, (approx 3 hours a day), the guys all wear air fed masks with in line filters, the filters are detachable for changing purposes. What do we need to do legally? We do follow the supppliers procedure with relation to changing the filetrs but do we need to record the fact of changing them? Do we need to number the filters to track the change?. Is there a shelf life on the filters? Hope someone can help.

Have you seen COSHH Reg 9(3) and its associated ACoP?

Hi Gwahir
You do not state if the paint your sprayers are using is a two pack isocyanate paint or not.
Two pack paints are common in re-spraying of cars and commercials vehicles.
If they do use two pack, there is more to do than just change the filters in the paint sprayers belt.
e.g. do you carry out breathable air quality monitoring on the air supplied to the paint sprayers?
Are the paint sprayers subject to health surveillance (lung function testing)
Are the paint sprayers subject to biological monitoring for isocyanate?
Do you carry out clearance time testing on the spray booth?
The HSE is currently carrying out a campaign on spraying of two pack paints and the associated health issues. Have a look at the link http://www.hse.gov.uk/mvr/issues.htm
