Can anyone assist with the following quearies?

1 What are the main hazards associated with Childrens Homes?

2 Where does the key finances for Childrens Homes come from?

3 Who are responsible for monitoring and auditing Childrens Homes

some of the main hazards to our staff in the childrens residentials include violence including the use of weapons from the young people, arson/fire,and other injuries through the use of restraint!

I suggest you get a copy of the Commission for Social Care Inspectorate Standards for Children's homes which give a lot of information on what will be inspected. Children's homes along with adults homes are not inspected by HSE, they are inspected by CSCI on a concordat with HSE as they inspect much more than health and safety.
Funding depends on ownership, LA homes are funded directly, private ones are businesses and charge LAs for placements.
The main risk is violence to staff from young people, but there may also be risks to young people from suicide so it is usually a good idea to check the home for ligature points.
Hope this helps
Linda
