Hi
Firstly i must apologise if this has been discussed before.
Is an act of physical violence between two members of staff RIDDOR reportable?
Have had slight disagreements with other health and safety personnel within our company.
During my short health and safety career i cannot recall anything within RIDDOR that states that violence should be reported. When challenging other health and saftey personnel within who states that it is RIDDOR reportable they cannot find anything within the regs that states this.
The only thing i can find is a statement on the hse violence site that states if a person suffers death, major injury or over 3 day injury following an act of violence then it is reportable.
We had an incident where two loaders came to fisty cuffs, all be it a very short scuffle not resulting in any major injuries or over 3 day abscences.
Sorry for the confusion, can anyone clarify for me, and if possible point me to the right place in the regulations.
Many Thanks in advance.

Hi Dean,
you are right, to be reportable the violence has to result in a reportable injury, in itself it is not reportable,

I working in LA social work violence is something we know about.. as stated only if the violence results in a reportable injury or over 3 day absence. The violence must be work related..e.g. two workers getting involved in a punch up re a personal, domestic issue, argument about football, politics etc. is not reportable. A worker punching a supervisor or the supervisor attacking the worker over a work issue.. is reportable. So long as it meets the general RIDDOR requirements..hope that's clear and helps.

An added complication is that to be reportable the cause of the violence has to be "work related".
If they were fighting about football or some woman/man they both fancied that would not be reportable
