I have just downloaded the UNICEF report on child poverty in rich countrys and it makes interesting reading. Dissapointing and a little worrying to see that the UK is in the bottom third of nearly every section. The section on Health and Safety of children makes very interesting reading. Statistics showing deaths and injuries occuring from accidents up to 19 years of age to children in the UK (avaraged over a 3 year period) is the second lowest in the developed world, second only to Sweden. Now as a profession we often get hammered by all and sundry for trying to wrap our kids in cotten wool, but considering in nearly all other sections of the report this country is seen as failing our young people, I feel some satisfaction that we as a profession are possibly making a credible difference.I bet the Daily Mail don't report that!!!

excellent point MetalMan.

How about a letter to the press from our president pointing that out?

A good point, well worth making.

However, taking the report as a whole if we remove reference to children, does this not more accuraltely reflect modern UK Plc?

Hi,

There is some related and worrying information concerning road accidents and family poverty, on the Make Roads Safe Campaign website.

http://www.makeroadssafe.org/index.html

Crazy situation that there is money provided to build new roads but nothing for safety features. Just look at the resultant road safety casualty statistics!
