hi all,
am hoping someone on here can help me out, I have been asked by a friend of a friend to write a risk assessment for hot air ballooning, and am just wondering if anyone else has done this, and if they can advise me on the minimum detail required, where to find the code of conduct, etc, have tried google and other search engines, but no success... hope somenone can help.
thanks

Having flown on balloons on a number of occasions I have to say the result of an RA can only be to reinforce its high risk rating.
The most effective control measure (that is if you are a risk averse safety officer is don't do it.
For the rest of us, have fun.

After watching my friend crewing for a balloon company I asked what they had done in terms of risk assessment... you can guess the answer :)
I was shocked at the lack of consideration of small things like
A simple safety presentation / chat of what to do if things go wrong
Manual handling etc when customers help unload the balloon
The fact customers are asked to stand really close to the burner in set-up
First aid precautions!!! - What if you crash land in the middle of a field (and the air ambulance is busy!)
I don't think this it's going to be too hard to risk assess and I think you'll find most things are in control or easily controlled just think outside the box
If you want me to have a proper think and chat with my balloon pilot friends drop me an email…
Also you mustn’t forget – How to deal with the angry farmer whose sheep you just scared! He may well have a big gun :)

thanks for the help guys, I wasn't sure why you would need a risk assessment for this, but its for a corporate balloon and so as a company they wanna cover their backs, will look at what you have suggested though. Thanks again,
