Posted By Thomas Elliott Hi Robert,
Definitely not against any safety regs providing it has been appropriately PAT tested. I wonder if this is another attempt of using H&S as an excuse for 'someone' not wanting 'something' to happen.
As professionals we must emphasise what we can do, but safely. Not what we can't do.

Posted By Robert. If it's a fixed appliance and not portable do the regs apply anyway?

Posted By Richard Beevers Robert, Further to the above. All you need is a risk assessment? Does it put anyone at any particular risk? Are people trained to use it, clean it etc.
It's worth noting that some cappucino machines (the bigger ones that produce steam) are pressure systems and so need to meet PSSR 2000(?). All the need is a simple written scheme and generally an annual inspection by a competent person.
I use my own espresso machine at work in the kitchen, and it certainly makes my colleagues lives safer once I've had my morning hit.

Posted By Glyn Atkinson What a great idea - I'll have to see about having one tested and installed in our office welfare area !

Posted By Thomas Elliott Robert./Richard,
Fair point, I had in my head a simple cappuccino maker sourced from a local store. Apologies for any confusion caused re fixed appliances/pressure systems.
Do agree that a simple risk assessment indicating that the introduction of such an appliance will cause no adverse to persons safety is the way to go. Although don't think I would dwell too much on doing a lengthy time consuming one.

Posted By Robert Paterson Thanks to everyone who responded. Your postings just confirmed what I was thinking.
Hope I haven't sparked off a 'cappuccino in the office' revolution.
