Im planning on moving to England (from Ireland) in the coming time to work as an environmental health officer (which i have a degree in).
But i need to start familiarising myself with British legislation. What are the main pieces of legilsation that EHOs enfore in the UK?
Also does anybody have any interview tips for an EHO job? I remember I once had lots of pages of info specifically for eho jobs but i dont know where it is now, can you help?
Thanks

Anders.
would suggest you visit the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) web site. you will probably find all the info you need on there. There is also a link to their jobs-on-line site, which will give you an idea of availability and salary ranges. You will probably find that you will not have any trouble finding work provided you are flexible about where you want to live and work, there is still a bit of a shortage of EHO`s. One note of caution, most LA`s are currently, or about to, go through a pay evaluation scheme which may affect salary levels.
Good luck

Hi Colin,
Thanks for that. Im actually going for an interview in a location I like with a good package, my only concern is its a H&S EHO job rather than a food safety/Smoking Offcier EHO job(which I ahve done in the past). Although I have 5 months experience of H&S in private industry which will stand to me.
What I actually need is a bit of info into what a H&S EHO actually does, what are the main pieces of legislation they deal with and whats expected of them.
Obviously I will get/ask for this info in the interview, but id like a bit of info before I go for the interview.
Thanks for any help!

Anders,
A H&S EHO (AKA Local Authority H&S Inspector and all sorts of other aliases) enforces the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and dependent Regulations, in accordance with the provisions of the H&S Enforcement Regs of (I think) 1977. You can find a lot of the relevant law on the UK governments website; start searching on www.opsi.gov.uk (Office of Public Information),
