Posted By oneill Hi All, Came across this problem recently - operators who wear everyday glasses and also wear ear muffs, the arm of the glasses breaks the seal around the ear muff therefore decreasing the level of protection given - simple answer would be to provide ear plugs - but these cause more problems due to improper use etc even with training!- some one suggested the use of ear muffs with the band at the back of the head would offer more comfort to glass wearers. I googled my problem and I discovered a product called Eyeglass template cushions - has anyone every come across them - are they effective? All feedback appreciated.

Posted By MetalMan To be honest I wore ear defenders every day with glasses in a high noise aircraft environment for 13 years and have never had a problem. The foam ear pieces on the ear defenders mould around arms of glasses (which are usually thin)The small amount of seal that could possibly be broken should not make a difference. In fact I had a hearing test last week and my hearing is perfect.Maybe your operators are trying to pull a fast one as a lot of people do not like wearing ear defenders, I get it a lot in my place as well. I'm not trying to teach you to suck eggs, but have you had a look at someone wearing ear defenders and glasses at the same time, I would be suprised if you found any significant gaps. I seem to remember reading this concern either on this board or another some time ago and other posters had a similar opinion as mine.

Posted By William I have thought of this before, but from a noise point of view as if you have on the safety glasses and then the ear defenders on top then the fit may not be what it should be as i would imagine these defenders are manufactured with them being firmly on the side of the head and blocking out all noise, but if you have the glasses on then the seal will not be Before anyone suggests using ear plugs i would like to point out this is for use in a very noisy area which requires double hearing protection, so i think either goggles or the glasses with an elastic strap would be most useful in this case.
