Posted By Scott Russell Currently identify new products which we may be using on construction sites. With regards to manufactures safety data sheets can someone explain what (Sk) stands for when reading the exposure control section of the MSDS.

Posted By John Cook EH40 defines annotation as Sk: Can be absorbed through skin. The assigned substances are those for which there are concerns that dermal absorption will lead to systemic toxicity. Hope this helps.

Posted By Chris Packham Scott The sk notation is usually in connection with substances that have a WEL and indicates that the substance is a skin penetrant, i.e. capable of causing damage to internal organs! However, caution here! There are many substances that will not have a WEL that can cause damage if in contact with the skin. There are many that do not have a risk phrase and probably will not be on your safety data sheet. This point has been made in previous threads. If you need more on this and on evaluating a safety data sheet with particular reference to skin hazards drop me an e-mail and I will send you the notes from a BOHS seminar that I ran on this. Chris
