The Fire Protection Association website has a free Template. This involves answering questions. Any "negative" responses trigger "best practice" advice. A printed report is then produced.

I find this useful for office or possibly warehouse type facilities, not as good for industrial premises.

I would recommend it as a good free resource.

The FPA business risk assessment guide is not a template for a fire risk assessment. It is a guide.

What sort of premises are you carrying out a fire risk assessment on?

They call it a risk assessment Shaun.

A Simple Form of Risk Assessment

The following presents a simple method of risk assessment which can be used by employers or managers in small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) where an elaborate or quantified form of risk assessment, usually more appropriate to large premises, may not be needed. However, the 51 questions will clearly act as a useful prompt in undertaking a fire risk assessment of your company.

I've had a good look at it, and I'd also call it a FRA.

I will admit it doesn't seem to cater for fire fighters in the building, but I have to say, I haven't seen one yet that does.

In my view there are basic questions missing from the guide that would not make the 'assessment' a suitable and sufficient assessment. I think the guide is very misleading because laymen are looking at it and thinking that all they have to do is answer the questions. It asks nothing about the persons at risk, how many there are whether they are sleeping or awake, members of the public or employees etc. It asks nothing about the size of the building or whether there are floors above or below ground. This without getting into the more complex issues we have discussed on other threads. I am no longer in the fire service but I do have old colleagues who are. They are telling me that they are coming across these 'assessments' and are advising that they are not adequate. My personal view is that the FPA are not doing themselves any favours here. There are far better templates published by fire brigades such as Nottingham and Merseyside.

Further to my original post, I should have added that this questionnaire is a good starting point. I actually produced risk assessments which referred to this FPA guide, which I still maintain is useful.
