Posted By Jim Walker Nice one! Assuming its an accurate report (would be a first for a newspaper). I was most interested in the HSE response. I reckon had they been investigating they would have jumped on the "villain" for not performing a suitable & sufficient risk assessment.

Posted By Crim "A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said a risk assessment of the hole had been carried out but it was not deemed a serious risk." This is so funny and the cause of quite some laughter, until you realise how serious it is. This is another kick in the teeth for those of us trying to promote professionalism in health and safety. "He added: "The HSE policy is about serious risk management not risk elimination as you can never get an entirely risk-free workplace." I wish thy would remember this!

Posted By Peter Leese Despite the comments on this thread the HSE are a professional pragmatic organisation staffed by a large number of expert and informed staff with a good attitude to safety and to business. To sneer at them is to do a disservice to the professionalism of the HSE and to ourselves as H&S Practitioners. No doubt some would argue this, but let's base it on facts and not innuedo and cheap jibes.
