Posted By GavinR Hi just a quick question regarding TENORM contaminated equipment. We have all the procedures, testing and monitoring procedures and equipment and set up for possible TENORM equipment but simply wondering if any one knows if a simple polythene sheeting is adequate for wrapping any contaminated equipment if found prior to seeking disposal. The risk is very low and i'm pretty sure this is fine but would just like to get a second opinion. Cheers in advance, Gavin

Posted By Kevin Drew Gavin, PVC/polythene are widely used to wrap contaminated components pretty much regardless of the nature of the contaminant to contain it or prevent its spread. You really need to speak to your RPA for advice since the suitability of polythene in this instance will depend on the actual levels and nature of the contamination. Without more information from yourself it's difficult to make a proper judgement. Regards Kevin Drew

Posted By GavinR Hi Kevin, Thanks for your response. We are only just starting to do the testing and don't forsee there actually being an issue as all products returned to us from the field must be checked and decontaminated prior to despatch. This is an extra bolts and braces exercise and to ensure there is no risk should something ever slip the net. Any contaminated is expected to be low due as initial external checks on receipt of the equipment will be completed and if any TENORM is identified at this point the equipment will not be stripped down. It will only be equipment that is stripped down and then TENORM is identified during this stage that will require wrapping. I'm pretty confident that polytene will be sufficent as the TENORM will be mininal. Any further advice? Cheers, Gavin
