Posted By GARRY WIZZ Just had a look at the company harnessess and the arrest lanyard.
If you fell does the lanyard fully deploy from its encased pouch to its full length.
I was wondering because they would need to be higher the full length of the lanyard to prevent impact, or is it opening under control.
Any help explaining how it works, thanks

Posted By Paul A. Swift You might want to contact a company called Total Access near Stafford (sorry - don't have a number). They are very helpful(not pushy sales staff etc.)and I am sure they would be able to explain everything to you.

Posted By Kevin Kelly The pack in the lanyard can open up to 2.5 metres depending on the type. The old 2m fixed lanyards require 6.5m clearance for them to be effective. The most effective type of lanyard is the retractable Antec "mini-maxi". These operate on the seat belt effect in that once pressure is applied the lanyard locks and thus limiting the fall. Anderco Safety have a good range, try their website.

Posted By Dave Wilson Remember its not just about providing the harness and training in its use etc What about how you rescue the person if they do fall?
You can get arrest harnesses with a gadget that will slowly lower the person to the ground / place of safety.
What about fall prevention harness so that the person doesn't get near the edge?

Posted By Martin C The tear out pouch on a fall arrest lanyard will not fully extend under normal circumstances. It is designed to bring a falling body to a stop with a controlled deceleration. Once the body has stopped falling the extension of the lanyard will stop. If the extension to full length took place there is a risk of a sudden stop with excessive loads on the falling body. As stated in an earlier response, if you do not have enough space to fall into safely inertia type mini reels are a good option. Better still is to prevent a fall in the first place. Is position restraint a possibility? What about hand rails.
