Posted By GavinR Hi, Just wondering if anyone else had some advice regarding fire point covers. We have installed a new system throughout the site and have had 3-4 false alarms since its installation. This has mainly been due to accidentally activating the new fire points and maybe an intentional malice case. We are now considering installing a 2way system by covering the points with plastic covers- pretty straight forward. However we have been advised that doing this will mean we won't be compliant with British Standards. Has anyone else done this and have you had any problems?
Thanks for any advice, Gavin

Posted By Alan Haynes My best advice would be to talk to your local Fire Brigade - they will advise you on what is acceptable to them.
Unless things have changed - different Fire Authorities have different interpretations of requirements - so do't rely on what others have done elsewhere.
As an example of this - back in the Eighties, I was Project Managing fire precautions on sub-surface [underground to most people] railway stations. 3 different Fire Authorities gave 3 different answers to the problem of 'false alarms' from operation of the break glass points.
The first said 'don't fit any in public places - only in staff areas'.
The second said 'you can use flip up covers to prevent accidental alarms'
And the 3rd said 'stand a policeman by each point on football match days - no covers allowed, we'll prosecute if you fit them'
So we had different installations at each location.
Obviously things have moved on now, but do ask your local Fire Authority for their recommendations/comments.

Posted By Ashley Wood Have a look at the KAC web site as they may have a solution. They make 99% of the manual call points used by the fire trade.
