Slips & Trips: Surtronic Duo calibration reference standard

Posted By John Doe Any of you familiar with the Surtronic Duo device will know that you need the reference standard (thin bar of metal with graduated markings)to calibrate the thing before you measure surface micro-roughness in floors and such.
And therein lies my problem.
Got the Surtronic Duo. No doubt about it. We are sufficient in the Surtronic Duo Department to the required standard. Great big tick in the box, there.
It's the reference standard where we have become 'Spiggott'. In fact, I was the one who brought about the Spiggottocity. I lost the damn thing.
To make matters worse, they cost £166 + VAT to replace!
So we have the instrument and no way of calibrating it effectively before use. Therefore, it's pretty useless.
Just wondering whether there's any of you out there that are somehow oversufficient in the Reference Standard Department.
I hope and I pray.
(If anyone says "can you remember where you left it?", I'll probably develop an aneurism).

Posted By Ron Hunter Can't help John. Sometimes in life, you just have to take the rough with the smooth! Maybe your insurers would see this as an accidental slip and cover your tribological loss. They shouldn't be 'floored' by the sum you mention! ;-)

Posted By John Doe Had to look the 't' word up. Brilliant!
But the loss still troubles me.
