Prior to 'assessing' risks of violence, aggression and work-related stress, the task of identifying the hazards is critically important.
Until -and sometimes even after - a tragedy occurs, it is not unusual for organisations to literally close their eyes, ears and minds to evidence of hazards to lone workers.
Sometimes, the definition of 'lone' is also simply overlooked. It can vary not only according to times of the week or month but also according to the range of 'spaces' and 'places' in the workplaces for which an employer has responsibility.
Until an avoidable injury and subsequent trauma occurs. Too often, enormous money is then spent on executive meetings bemoaning the occurence - and not investing one single penny in preventing the next one.
