I have worked in many countries and in all situations it was expected that the 'guest' workers spoke etc the local language or used an adequate interpreter -

there is far more in it than simple language - national traits and cultures must also be considered. Having worked with the Poles, Dutch, Germans, Norwegians etc for many years their work ethic culture seems to be very much like the best of ours so they tend to be less of a problem than others - interpretation is a very important issue - My Spanish niece learnt English to university standard then it took her ~4 years of living here full time to get the 'real' language under her belt

Thanks for the responses so far.

I don't think that I explained myself properly (not for the first time!). I am after some assistance in a risk assessment for employing foreign workers i.e. language barriers, signage, inductions etc. Not for translating risk assessments for them.

I have been on the HSE website for the translated documents which have been put into a folder for the workers.

Any help would be much appreciated.
