Posted By Joe McCluskey I'd like to look at the possiblity of working in the US. My questions would be : Does the H&S system of legislation differ greatly? ( after all - safe is safe, isn't it??) Is there a course of study which would " convert" me - or provide the required statutory knowledge? Do US employers look on UK based legislation and safety education as a higher or lower ( or same ) level standard as their own?
The last point would welcome input from members who have worked in the US or employers based in the US.
I realise there would be differences in the legal system etc, but I'd be really interested in some answers regarding what employers would look for - and of course salary expectations.
If there are any web sites I can consult, I'd welcome info on these too.

Posted By Merv Newman The OSHA legislation, while superficially similar to the UK has lots of nuances. And the OSHA inspectors can just dump you with a fixed penalty without going to court.
Getting the nurse to change your sticking plaster would be classified as a "recordable" (similar to RIDDOR)
Injuries are calculated per 200 000 hours (roughly a percentage)
And any UK qualifications will not be recognised in the states. Nor is the UK if it comes to that.
Yesterday I called a guy who lives in Kaintuck. That was not English he was talking.
