Picture the scene, there's a load being lifted onto a 45ft trailer and it is choked by chains.

Now, under the Working at Height regs having a man on the trailer to undo the chains for each of the lifts is an issue. Surely the best option is to keep the man on the ground.

The question is - do any of you use different equipment to negate the need for the guy to be on the trailer? I'm wondering about remote release strops/chains, etc

Or any other ideas?

Other info -
The trailers are not all the same size/shape/length
The loads are all different but are typically 30-50ft long and weighing 1-7 tonnes
Trailers can be company owned or contractor or client.
For this process vacuum is not an option as there is no common area to make a seal.

Yes to the correct loading weights...

The issue with ladder will be when the load is far enough onto the tailer so he can't reach...

I was going to reply that I have seen quick release arrangements but Innes got there before me.

A trailing cord reachable from ground level snaps off and releases the hook.

No need for WAH
