Posted By Ali I'm looking out of my office window and at a construction site. There is a crane with a load and workers standing below and to the side. Does anyone know if there is an "exclusion zone" for persons below a crane with a load ? Thanks.

Posted By Merv Newman I don't think there is a legal definition of a "drop zone" Construction colleagues may advise otherwise. I go for two areas : The first for off-loading and stock-age of delivered material from delivery trucks. The second is the "lift zone". O/H cranes pick up material from the stock-age area, swing over to the adjacent lift zone, which is totally barricaded : no possibility of pedestrian access. There is then a straight, vertical lift. When you get to the delivery height then there is always the possibility of people being swung over. Here I go for a really nasty Klaxon. A "drop down" zone at the top floor is a good idea but there will often be people picking up material for installation. Now you depend on the professionalism of the crane driver not to swing over people. It ain't easy. Merv
