New fire safety rules affecting all non-domestic premises in England and Wales came into force on 1 October 2006.

A fire risk assessment helps you to identify all the fire risks and hazards in your premises. You can then decide to do something to control them.

Baker appears to have sent you some info but you could extend assessing the hazards identified in HSE HSG 62 Health and Safety in tyre and exhaust fitting premises by considering information from other sources such as the ones below. I have seen comprehensive risk assessment manuals from tyre fitting organisations in the past and have little doubt that your industry body should be able to assist you with some pattern assessments to work from.

There are many issues associated with working at the roadside and I would suggest that PAS 43 which covers roadside activity. Have a look at http://www.hse.gov.uk/mvr/roadside.htm as well.

A particular concern of mine (tyre inflation) is covered within the following http://www.hse.gov.uk/ab.../meetings/mvr/041006.pdf

Manual handling
Look in the following minutes http://www.hse.gov.uk/ab.../meetings/mvr/070307.pdf and also http://www.hse.gov.uk/mvr/handlingtyres.pdf

At the extreme end of the spectrum there is http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/eis1.pdf

I hope that these information sources assist you in your work.

Malcolm
