Posted By Andy McGrath My site has recently purchased a Defibrillator, for which I am just trying to to organise the training.
I can get the training done, at a bargain price, by my other half who is fortunately a qualified AED trainer. However she is being told that there is a charge to pay of £5 per certificate for newly qualified staff, by the guy who ran her course. This money would go straight to his organisation. I intend to get around 25 trained to use it, so the certificates could cost us a few bob.
I am thinking that I just get my own made up, on site? Does anyone have any idea, if I would be legally ok with this?
Any thoughts welcome.
Thanks
Andy

Posted By RoseR Hi Andy
There is no HSE approval required for the defib course at the moment so the payment to the guy for certifcates would be a waste of money. You can do your own certificates, but bear in mind a certificate isn't a legal document, just a document to show proof of training.
The HSE website states "It is important that the person who will be required to use a defibrillator, usually a first aider, is appropriately trained. Courses in the use of defibrillators are available. Training providers offering such courses do not need approval from HSE for this purpose."
Hope this helps.

Posted By Michael Hayward St John Ambulance do a 1/2 day course which includes basic CPR plus use of the AED. They will come and do you an in-house course and issue a certificate. Countact your local county office - don't know the cost though Cheers Mick

Posted By Phil You need to make sure that the provider is following the latest Resus council guidlines, and includes a session on B.L.S too
If you need more info give me an e-mail

Posted By Andy McGrath Thanks for the responses guys.
There is no problem with the trainer, as she is currently does our weekly lifeguard training for us & is also a FAAW trainer. She is also my other half, so I know her pretty well!
St Johns charge around £50 per person for the intial course while she will do it for around £20 per hr - dirt cheap!
Anyway thanks for the input folks.
