Has anyone that runs training courses any experience of using the new "blue cartoon character" style of IOSH Managing or Working Safety?

I have heard some comments along the lines of the style being "patronising or demeaning to adult learners".

Also that it is not easy to synchronise one's presentation with the moving animations.

However I gather that there are good activities/syndicate exercises like board games that may make up for this.

I'm planning on going to Leicester to look at a demo, but just wondered if anyone already using it has any comments or advice.

I have run 5 courses from it so far and it is far better received than the old one.

There are a few minor errors in spite of the fact they say it’s fully tested, assessment 2 does not tell you in the marking guide how many marks to award for each correct answer to question 22. If you do what might come naturally and give 2 for each correct answer n you will get too many marks at the end. If your computer is not very high in RAM memory the presentations sometimes jam and you will need to re boot your machine.

However every time I present it I get better at it and can synchronise me with it better. Comments that it takes some getting used to are correct, but I have had no comments from adult leaner’s that are adverse, in fact quite the reverse candidates that have done the course tell others that have not done so that they would enjoy the course learn a lot from it and should get on one quickly!!.

It needs to be remembered that it is aimed at managers with little or no Health & Safety knowledge.

Yes a diploma student would be bored by it!

The new course is excellent. Some minor teething problems, but excellent.

Certainly not patronising if delivered to the intended audience i.e. managers.

Kind regards

Nick
