Posted By Alan Walkinshaw In relation to safety in a busy warehouse environment: Is there a safety benefit from "chamfering" the corners of wooden pallets to avoid ankle injury and ease fork lift loading. My employers current Europallet design specification details this "chamfered" corner feature. I have been asked to evaluate any safety benefit in doing this against the cost benefit of eliminating this feature. Any views or suggestions?

Posted By Andy Walker Alan In a past life I dealt with warehousing and can't remember any significant difference between the two.If memory serves me rightly just as many people tripped over europallets as normal ones. IMHO I really don't think it would make a significant difference. Andy

Posted By Alan Johnson Hi Alan I think the only safety benefit would come from the fact that fork lift fork damage may well be reduced (however good training of drivers will play a bigger part). As for cost benefit I don't think this will be likely as if your company needs to use euro pallets these have to be to a set specification to be classed as "euro pallets" and it is only these certified pallets which can be used. I would suggest that for more detailed information you visit the TIMCON website http://www.timcon.org. Alan Johnson

Posted By Ian Mitchell I am not a pallet anorak, but I think that Euro Pallets do have to have the chamfer (for whatever reason - safety or otherwise). THe euro-pallet sized pallets made of thinner wood without chamfers but the same basic dimensions are 'one-trip euros'. IE disposable. They are not the same thing and may not be interchangeable if your customer specifies - worth checking out...
