Hi everybody,

I am wondering if you can tell me the difference between these two assessments as I work for an organisation whereby all documents are controlled by the Head Office or the Chief Engineer on H&S related issues.

I was asked to use the blank Risk Assessment forms to do the Workplace Assessments which will be due in June. Our General Risk Assessments will be due in Nov. All our General Risk Assessments can be obtained on the Intranet where the Degree of Risk, Control Measures etc have been filled up, all I need to do is to rate the Control Measures and give comments if any.

Thanks
May

A decade or so ago when I worked in a large organisation we would do 'cross-functional' workplace assessments, that is where you go to another department and carry out an inspection, documenting all that you come across. The manager of that department then carried out the risk assessment of the new hazards you spotted and checked the validity of those identified previously.

Similarly, I had to do the risk assessments of anything new the other manager highlighted while going around my office.

It is surprising what a fresh pair of eyes see. Things that you have accepted as 'normal' because it has always been there or done that way.
