Posted By angelae Good afternoon I have a friend who works as Health & Safety Manager. He has a NEBOSH Diploma, but still does not feel competent to tackle a COSHH assessment (so has never done one!!). He tells me that the subject was basically avoided by lecturers etc, but don't know quite how true that is!! As an Occ Health Advisor I've expressed my concern as COSHH is a major part of both my and his roles. Can anyone suggest a suitable training course which might enable him to understand his requirements under COSHH? He needs training in carrying out assessments, legislation - the whole shabang basically, but more technical than the basic awareness training I can find on offer on line. Many thanks for any help you can offer.

Posted By Philip McAleenan Angela, Here is a basic on-line course that he can follow. It is an action learning program that takes the viewer step by step through the assessment process; http://www.confinedspace...m/EW01/ecoshh/index.htm.The course is free and open access. If he requires anything further on this I will be pleased to discuss, regards, Philip.

Posted By Rachael Palmer Angela, have a look on the IOSH website under the training and courses - develop your CPD section. http://www.iosh.co.uk/in...?go=courses.cpd_calendarThere is a course on the 18-19 June may be too short notice for that one but I'm sure there will be others Rachael

Posted By Ian G Hutchings Angelae Another option your colleague may wish to explore is one-on-one coaching. We do this and it is very beneficial because we do it in your workplace, with your hazardous substances and can physically walk through-talk through example assessments. We can then come back and assist until the person is confident to undertake the assessments. In terms of attained learning I think this will be far more effective than going on a standard COSHH course. ian.hutchings@vitasafety.com if you need to know more. Cheers Ian
