I am compiling a comprehensive fire safety log book for care homes and I have just a couple of record sheets to devise but I am having a couple of problems sorting out a template. I need to devise record forms that will enable the recording of testing that the gas supply interruption system is working correctly in the kitchen, should the fire alarm be activated and also that the gas supply shut off system to other appliances is also working correctly. If anyone could forward a basic template I would be grateful. Please email to stephan.haigh@careservices.lancscc.gov.uk

Does it need to have a template ?

Would not a suitably headed Excel or Access spreadsheet suffice for recording this type of test?

DATE, TYPE OF TEST COMPLETED, PERSON WITNESSING TEST, ACTIONS REQUIRED / RECOMMENDED, ACTIONS COMPLETED.

It wouldn't be too dissimilar to a toilet facility checklist, but with slightly more details of the actual test, with a clear name of the witness to prove who oversaw the interlocks working on a particular day.

I utilise many machinery daily check lists of this type, and if clearly laid out and understandable for monitoring and auditing purposes should suffice for your safety management system.

The hardest thing in my opinion is for the people doing the test to understand the importance of what they are doing as a safety test, and to ensure that every witnessed test is recorded accurately, and faults are immediately reported, with equipment being removed from service if discovered to have faults, not just a tick box test.
