I’m currently working for an EU based Principle Contractor on a UK CDM contract. The foreign senior management have no understanding of UK health and Safety Law and don’t want to know. You might be surprised to learn they are only interested in the program. Never!
The problem is I am genuinely concerned that we are heading towards a serious or fatal accident due to the total disregard for the regulations and my advice. I’ve gradually been stuffed into a corner and my job is under threat every time I raise a new safety concern. Basically they want me to be seen but not heard.
Should I get the HSE involved and if so how will I be regarded within the industry if it becomes known I blew the whistle?

Posted By David Bannister Your own conscience may be the best guide in this matter - if you really feel that you have no other option then HSE may be the solution.
However, be aware that if it is believed that you were the whistle blower then despite legal protection your future in the industry is ended. Also don't agree to meet the Directors on the top level of the scaffolding at night!
One last thought - is there a TU represented on the site? You will likely get assistance from them.

Posted By Raymond Rapp Have to agree with David's sound advice. The HSE should be interested to learn of your problems and treat it with some confidentiality.
If you have raised the matter with senior management and still no joy, then whatever do not invoke the whistleblowing legislation - it is a potential 'minefield'.

Yes a move to another company would be personally very useful but it leaves people at risk. You need to consider how you can put your concerns in writing - set out with reasoned, business efficient arguments.
