Posted By CFT Only a small Health & Safety issue, more related to environmental,so apologies for 90/10% split in environmental favour. We have now reached around 500-800 large glass bottles monthly (empties) and asked our local recycling contractor to collect with the other collections. He is a couple of months away from being set up to recycle, glass so rather than have these bottles hanging around and presenting safety issues, as well as wanting to tick another item off in total for eventual 14001, I asked the local council if we may take them to the local recycling depot and insert into appropriate bottle bank area? I was told NO!! because it is domestic waste only at the local depot, fair enough, I fully understand, I explained that these would just go into general waste and end up as landfill, was this acceptable compared to allowing us to dispose of correctly? (and yes, I offered to pay whatever charge is currently in force for trade waste) The reply was "sorry, that is the law, you will therefore have to pay someone to collect and recycle or continue with landfill" I'll phone someone in a minute because if I can prevent a few thousand bottles going into landfill, then I will. Barmy ol country at times methinks.

Posted By Bob Shillabeer Hi, Don't you have any local commercial recycling companies who can come and collect on a one off basis?

Posted By Merv Newman Remember, glass recyclers need brown/green to be separated from white. Otherwise it goes for road-fill. merv

Posted By Alan Hewett CFT, What are these bottles used for / where have they come from? Could you make arrangements with the supplier of the product / substance that came in the bottles to collect and re-use them (the supplier may come under the packaging regulations)? Also have a look at web sites such as 'waste traders' as there may be others who would be able to use your 'waste', links for these can be found in the netregs or envirowise web sites. Good luck. Alan

Posted By Alan Hewett Also you could ask your main contractor if they would have them on their site for a couple of months until they have the glass recycling facility ready. Alan

Posted By Bennie Hi CFT - agree with Alan. Can you not ask the supplier to take them back or find a different supplier who s prepared to take them back. Remember you are paying for these bottles and are now having to pay to dispose of them.

Posted By Booney Charley, have you heard of NISP? They have the ethos that one company's waste is anothers raw material and bring the two together through a national database. Here's the website if you are interested: http://www.nisp.org.uk/ I have no commercial interest in these Hope this helps Kind Regards Booney
