Posted By Ronan What is the maximum weight can be lifted above an operative head, and what are the rules on frequency, for example, how long would an operative be permitted to endure such an act.

There is no such thing as a maximum weight that can be lifted. It all depends on the size, strength and fitness of the person. Guidance on lifting can be found in appendix 3 of the Manual Handling regs. The same diagram can be found on page 10 INDG143 "Getting to grips with Manual Handling."
That said there is no guidance on carrying articles overhead which is not a recommended practice

As the previous respondent suggested, there is only guidance on max lifting weights. I have always worked with the benchmark of a max 25K for a single lift and 20K for repetitive lifts. Only a rule of thumb mind.
