Hello all,

Recently someone gave me a business card with a my-space link on it. I have not come across this before, but then again I don't get a lot of business cards.

Is the placing of My-Space links onto business cards becoming common practice? Seems a quick way of conveying what you are about. Wouldn't be a problem to furnish a link to your CV etc.

Before I change my cards, are there any 'elephant traps' of which I should be aware? maybe some of you have done this and come a cropper in some way?

In my personal view I think that it would look a bit unprofessional. Certainly have a link to your own website if you have one but not on something like You Tube. Many firms will deny their employees access to these type of sites which means that your potential client will only be able to "imagine" whats on it.

DRB,

Sorry, not U-Tube, I wrote 'My-Space'.

I do not think they are one and the same - are they?

Myspace is a great invention and a wonderful site for young ppl but its not the kind of thing I would expect to see as a CV!

Highly inappropriate in my view... unless perhaps he's a DJ or a club promoter.

He is an mechanical engineer.

Seems other people's take on this is less positive than my own.

I can only assume I am completely out of step. I do not have a website you see, and this seemed a good little (free) method of putting forward a some more information about myself. if there are no less than savoury links, where's the harm?

I see your point, but it's a bit like attaching your holiday snaps to your CV when you send it in ... tells people more about you, but it's hardly relevant to the situation.

A business card gives the way of contacting someone, phone number, address, even email address.

If you have a situation where you think someone would benefit by reading your "My Space" entry, why not just email them a link?

If you are not net-savvy, your "My Space" entry might even let you down.

I'd have to agree with Tabs!

There are lots of free web space companies out there, which may be a little more appropriate!

Google search it.. I cant give details due to AUG's
