Posted By Hazel Harvey Les, IOSH have a reciprocal arrangement with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). A Chartered Member of IOSH will be waived the fundamentals examination but will have to take the main examination before they can be given the CSP designation. This CSP designation is often looked for by organisations employing safety practitioners. It should be pointed out, however, that the American approach to safety is different to the European risk based approach and is more safety engineering and so does not include much health etc. Have a look at the BCSP's web-site. CSP's coming to the UK or Ireland who want CMIOSH have to undertake the IOSH open assessment.

Posted By Andrew Murdy It's a whole new world out there with huge differences in culture, practice and expectations.
Compliance training is largely based upon legislation rather than hazard control and the way the Rules are written is more opaque than you can imagine.
The regulatory regime is different, the contracting arrangements are different and the pace of work are different.
It's very enjoyable, a huge change from here but it's never easy.
I worked in the mid-West for 2 years and it was great and frustrating in equal measure.
Cheers Andy
