Im looking at putting together some risk assessment training. I want it to last approx half a day. What sort of things have people included that have worked well? Has anyone got a PP presentation i could work off? or a course outline?

We have asked a company to come in and present a half day risk assessment course for us. We used EEF. I wanted Manager & Supervisors to take more responsibility for them. I think although we could run internal, many people tend to sit up and listen more to an external provider. Like you i couldn't find anything half day, everyone is offering certified courses for 2-3 days, which wasn't what we wanted. We simply wanted the practical aspects & based on our environment and documents.

Hi - I am a health and Safety trainer and deliver Risk Assessor training in co hoots with the BSC.
I cannot see how a half day training session can give justice to Risk assessment training.
We deliver the theory then spend the rest of the day doing practical assessments. Delegates are prompted to take their own company forms and use them through the practicals so they can return to their companies and feel comfortable using their own system.
Companies are also looking to check levels of "competence" after the training so we always finish with a risk assessment that they need to do to prove the learning has been understood and prove they can do one. This is marked up and returned to the company paying for the course.
Again - for beginners I cannot see how a half day course would be of benefit.

A day RA course is too short. A week RA course is too short. But you do what you can do in the time available.
A few practical exercise does not make people experts.

Peter - why am I wrong? We deliver this course. Our awareness sessions on manual handling are ~ 3 hour sessions. The BSC Assessors course is full day.
Nick - I agree but a half day training session is also an awareness session as far as I am concerned. But by doing a practical and debriefing with different groups is an advantage.
Additional problems come in when people are coerced into the course when they don't want to be there. Companies need to identify people who are enthusiastic in their approach before sending them for training.
