Posted By David Bramall Any internet experts out there or at IOSH?
A lot of these threads contain web addresses which, unless you have already seen the site, you have to leave this forum and look at the other web site come back here again and very soon the message can be lost.
Can the link be made live to let us "more simple web users" have a look and come back to the original message?
Every time I try to do this I lose the original message or cannot find the site ...!

Posted By Jane Blunt One way round this is to open up a second copy of your browser and run it in parallel. That way you can keep the thread open in one while surfing in the other.

Posted By Roger Uncles David Apart from copying and pasting the web page why don't IOSH allow or introduce a hyperlink service?

While I do not claim do be the GLE when it comes to web design I do have a considerable track record. What you are asking of IOSH is a relatively straight forward task. The hyperlinks could automatically open a second tab or window (depends on your browser) and as such you would not lose the posting you are reading.
It comes down to the web designer having the will to make it happen not the ability.
Hope your request is met and help is forthcoming.

Posted By Ken Taylor A good idea - but I don't see why you are losing the IOSH page. Highlight the link, right click and copy, right click and paste to the address panel and hit 'return' and you're there - hit the 'back button' and you're back to IOSH - it just takes a few seconds longer than a live link.

Posted By shaun mckeever Alternatively download the latest Internet Explorer and use the tabs at the top to keep several sites open.

Posted By Neal Clark Hi all, Many thanks for your comments. Our forums are actually designed to make all web addresses within forum postings inactive. This is to discourage misuse and block direct links from our website to inappropriate content. As other forum users have suggested, you can still manually copy and paste any web address from our forums into a new browser window to follow the link. If there are specific websites that you would like to recommend to IOSH website users, you can also email your suggestions to techinfo@iosh.co.uk. Our Technical team will review all suggestions and consider them for inclusion in our technical links directory (www.iosh.co.uk/links). Thanks again, Neal Clark, Web Co-ordinator.

Posted By David Bramall Thanks to all who responded.
Useful stuff and indeed I have tried but not a real success. I still have an idea that the Mr Moderator could provide live links and at the same time police the use of "unsuitable" sites.
Mr Moderator - I do understand your concern that unsuitable sites could be advertised on your site but surely you could block any sites you deem not appropriate.

Posted By Merv Newman I'm not going to ask the web coordinators to make any special effort. Copy/Paste/Back is effortless for the user.

Posted By Paul Leadbetter I use Firefox and, if I highlight a weblink in a thread, I can then drag it to the Location Bar and Firefox then takes me to that page. As Merv says, 'back' then brings me back here.

Posted By Peter Leese An even better improvement would be to number each message - people are frequently at cross purposes with the current system! Especially when there are three Johns on one thread.
