Posted By J Geoff A Simpson I am assisting my colleague to write a 'knives' policy for use primarily offshore. At present it would appear that there is a process of taking an as supplied knife and then grinding the point off it until a rounded edge is achieved. I believe this is altering the design intent of the equipment and as such if the knife were to shatter having been 'rounded' and if injury or damage were to be sustained then we would be liable -- I'm sure there is a specific piece of legislation which covers this -- can anyone help me out?

Posted By Jim Walker Geoff, you will only get a problem if the person grinding is not competent and alters the blade temper. Otherwise why would it shatter? Tis easy enough, I regrind my work tools all the while.
