Environmental question about underground waste oil storage tanks

Morning All,
Not really H & S but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction please?
We have two underground waste oil collectors/separators that are fed by buried pipes from our factory. These tanks also have a fill point and an empty point accessible from their top.
Can anyone tell me what maintenance or maintenance procedure is likely to be required on these under environmental legislation and which areas of the legislation apply please?
Many thanks

Hi
Difficult to give a complete answer without knowing more about the business or general situation but things to consider will be Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the requirements of the Water Resources act that is intended to protect groundwater and controlled surface waters from pollution. Although the Oil Storage Regulations 2000 won't actually apply as the tanks are underground they will give a good guide as to the sort of protection you should be considering. You need to ensure that you have a system in place to detect and leaks and that should a spill occur during filling/emptying then ou have processes in place to deal effectively with spilss before they create a pollution incident. If you need any more specific information happy for you to contact me off forum.
