...........consultation

Hi all,
As we try to develop our SMS, I have been asked to put in writing a procedure for how we consult our new policies throughout the company before implementation.

I usually start with safety reps in the development then consult with the relevant engineers etc before going to the SQE Mgr and then Divisional Director for sign off.

Does anyone out there have a procedure that I can use as a basis for my 'master piece'.

Many thanks.

Hi

I think the key is really 'involvement' rather than just 'consultation'.

You can set up small teams to review and discuss key areas such as policy, risk management, audit, investigation etc.

There obviously comes a time when you just need to roll things out, as there will normally be a small percentage that you cannot please.

The document is only part of the story....

The foundation of all good safety management systems is the ease of compliance. The harder the business makes it for people to comply the less likely they will be to follow the expected procedure.

Directive approach = grudging compliance, but quick to implement.
Educative approach = understood, followed and supported, but slow to implement.

Good luck. Don't rush.
