Are we legally required to have our HGV tail lifts weight tested? If so when, how and by whom?
We do have them inspected under LOLER every 6 months by our insurers and they are regularly serviced.

If persons ride up and down on them it is 6 monthly under LOLER, if not then it is 12 monthly or under a scheme of inspection from a competent person.

The extent of the testing and certification is a matter for the competent person to define.

Part of the LOLER inspection will be a weight test - our competent person has a 1 tonne weight placed on the tailift and records the laden times up and down are recorded along with working BAR, and any downward creep.

Heaven forbid he puts the tonne weight on a 750kg tailift - I might just find the cab of the lorry in the air!!

Have fun with your new kitchen!!
