We are hoping to purchase a new turret milling machine. The main reason for this is to improve safety and to avoid retrofitting a relatively expensive table guard on a clapped out machine.

I have been looking at the requirements of PUWER and the EHSRs stated in the Supply of Machinery regs, but I still am unsure what the minimum standards are re:access to moving parts.
We are looking at buying a machine with an interlocking guard, but really cannot see the point of one if it allows access to moving parts on run down. Are there any minimum stopping times for this type of equipment (similar to radial drills with trip devices)?

We are finding that suppliers seldom know the answers to these issues.

Try the following link then pick the applicable standard form the HSE FOD document http://www.hse.gov.uk/fo...ectors/manuf/3_05_13.pdf

I'm afraid this will then mean that you need to purchase the relevant standard due to copyright rules.
