Dear All,
I have been invited by the producers of the company magazine to contribute a monthly article regarding H&S.I really want to raise peoples awareness in H&S and get away from peoples negative attitude to H&S.
My dilemma is - for the initial article, to grab peoples attention??I am no literary genius, so need all the help i can get.
Has anybody got any ideas on the best way of going about this?
The company is a major airport and the magazine is distributed to all ground staff.
Many thanks in anticipation.

David,
You could start by trying trying to dispel some of the myths surrounding your topic.
The TUC have a good article on their website or alternatively consider the HSE's myth of the month.

What about "There and Back - focus on manual handling" given the type of industry where manual handling activities would be common [I assume]. You could include statistics from the Labour Force Survey for 2005/2006 which shows MSDs still top the list and throw in some stats from your own industry to highlight the problem. Provide practical solutions if you can.

If allowed, I'd try and put a few pictures / graphics - as the old saying goes, a picture tells a thousand words..

Apply the KISS principle - Keep IT Simple Stupid as too much waffle will turn the reader off.

Good luck!!

Link things in with humour or current interest, news or entertainment, helps keep interest and makes for good reading. ie floods, harry potter, russia etc...

Many thanks, i found the TUC publication amusing, useful & informative.
Thank you, Alison - you are right to focus on MH, it is by far the highest accident statistic on the Airport!
